How to Get Your Pennsylvania Medical Marijuana Card
Pennsylvania has one of the largest medical cannabis programs on the East Coast with over 400,000 active patients.
PA is still medical-only — no recreational sales yet. Getting your card gives you legal access to dispensaries across the state. The process takes about 1-2 weeks.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does approval take?
Once your practitioner submits your certification, approval is usually within minutes to 24 hours. The entire process from booking to card-in-hand typically takes 3-7 days.
Can I use my PA card in other states?
Pennsylvania doesn't have official reciprocity, but some states accept out-of-state cards. Check the destination state's rules. Popular options include D.C., Maine, and Michigan.
Will my employer know?
No. The patient registry is confidential. Pennsylvania has employment protections for medical marijuana patients, though there are exceptions for safety-sensitive positions and federal employers.
Why aren't there edibles in PA?
Pennsylvania's law doesn't currently permit traditional edibles like gummies or chocolates. Only capsules, tinctures, and similar "pharmaceutical" forms are allowed. Advocacy groups are pushing for change.
Can I grow my own?
No. Home cultivation is not permitted for medical patients in Pennsylvania.
Is recreational coming to PA?
There have been multiple legislative attempts, but none have passed yet. For now, a medical card is the only legal way to purchase cannabis in Pennsylvania.
