County Line Road Cannabis Guide: Madison, Alabama

Where people in County Line Road actually buy, what it costs, and what is legal in Madison, Alabama as of September 2026.

Informational only. We don’t sell or deliver cannabis and we’re not a dispensary.

County Line Road Overview

County Line Road traces the boundary between Madison and Limestone counties on the western edge of the city, with subdivisions on the Madison side, farmland giving way to development on the other, and school attendance zones that shift depending on which side of the road a house sits. Growth has pushed steadily across it. For cannabis the line has no legal meaning, since Alabama's program is statewide, but crossing it puts a patient in the county that actually holds the region's dispensing approval.

Delivery in County Line Road

County boundaries do not change a statewide ban on off-premises sales. What crossing does is shorten the remaining distance to the approved Athens counter to roughly a dozen miles.

Local Pricing

Living on a county line changes no fee. The commission bills the same annual amount statewide, and the unopened Athens store will set product prices for the whole region.

County Line Road FAQ

Does my county affect my registration?

No. Alabama registers patients statewide, and your card works at any licensed dispensary regardless of which county issued your identification.

Are Limestone County rules different?

No. The same statute, dosing limits and product list apply on both sides of the road.

Why does Limestone County have the approval?

The commission approved Athens as a city. Madison County drew no approval despite having a far larger population.

Market Overview

Cannabis in County Line Road, Madison

Madison sits west of Huntsville along Research Park Boulevard, near Redstone Arsenal's west gate, and much of its growth has tracked the same aerospace and defense-contractor economy as its larger neighbor. Madison County has no AMCC-approved storefront of its own. Athens sits about 15 miles to the northwest by way of US-72, a trip of roughly 20 minutes, and GP6 Wellness is the operator finishing a BamaBloom there; farther south, Cullman is on the approved list too.
Madison patients should confirm current status at either before planning a trip.
GP6 Wellness sited the Athens BamaBloom store along a light-retail stretch of US-72 rather than inside a mall footprint, a quick detour for Madison patients already routed that way. Early reports from elsewhere in the state suggest a simple routine: a staffer checks the photo ID against the card, wait time tracks with how busy the hour is, and cash remains the more dependable option while card terminals stay inconsistent industry-wide. Madison's own aerospace and defense-contractor workforce, layered on top of newer data-center employers moving into the Research Park Boulevard corridor, gives the city one of the more tech-heavy patient populations in this guide.
Everything about who qualifies, what it costs, and what is for sale is fixed at the state level; consult the guide above rather than expecting local variation.

Alabama Statewide Context

Alabama's medical cannabis program is real but still very young. The Darren Wesley 'Iq' Holley Compassion Act passed in 2021 and created the Alabama Medical Cannabis Commission (AMCC), but license awards were tied up in litigation for years afterward. That changed on December 11, 2025, when the AMCC voted to approve dispensary licenses, and on January 8, 2026, three companies were issued licenses: CCS of Alabama, GP6 Wellness, and RJK Holdings AL. A fourth award, to Yellowhammer, was stayed pending an administrative challenge.
Callie's Apothecary, operated by CCS of Alabama, opened in Montgomery on June 4, 2026 as the state's first legally operating dispensary. A second Callie's opened in Talladega on August 28, 2026, and a third, in Bessemer near Birmingham, was expected in September 2026. GP6 Wellness has been building out BamaBloom dispensaries in Athens and Birmingham, also targeted for September 2026, and RJK Holdings AL has approved sites planned for Oxford, Mobile, and Daphne. The AMCC's full approved dispensing list also includes Attalla and Cullman. Integrated cultivation-through-retail licenses remained under administrative review in 2026.
Recreational cannabis is illegal statewide - a misdemeanor on a first personal-use offense, with felony exposure for repeat or larger-quantity possession. Only registered patients with a valid Alabama medical cannabis card may purchase, and only in person; the program does not allow delivery.
Separately, hemp-derived THC products (HB 445, fully effective January 2026) are regulated by the ABC Board - sold only in licensed stores to buyers 21+, capped at 10 mg THC per serving and 40 mg per package, no delivery. Smokable hemp and THC vapes are banned outright, with felony exposure for sellers since July 2025. This is a separate system from the AMCC medical program.

What to Buy in County Line Road

Product availability in County Line Road, Madison follows Alabama regulations. Here's what's available and what to expect:

🌿 Flower

Raw, smokable flower is prohibited under Alabama's medical program and is not sold at any licensed dispensary. There is no pending rule change that would add it.

💨 Vape Cartridges

Vape cartridges are not sold in Alabama's medical program - anything meant to be vaped or smoked is excluded. The only inhaled forms permitted are liquids for a nebulizer or medical inhaler device. Hemp-derived THC vapes are separately banned statewide, with felony exposure for sellers since July 2025.

🚬 Pre-Rolls

Pre-rolled joints are not available, since raw flower and smoking are both excluded from the medical program.

🍫 Edibles

Approved forms are non-sugar-coated gelatinous cubes/cuboids, lozenges, tablets, and capsules - not gummies or baked goods. Daily dosing is capped at 50 mg of delta-9 THC (up to 75 mg after 90 days of continuous care with physician sign-off).

💎 Concentrates

Alabama does not sell dabbable concentrates such as wax or shatter. Concentrated oils only appear in approved delivery forms - tinctures, topicals, transdermal patches, and inhaler/nebulizer liquids.

💧 Tinctures & Oils

Tinctures and oils are among the core approved categories and one of the more widely stocked forms at open dispensaries. They are taken sublingually for relatively fast onset and precise, incremental dosing.

🧴 Topicals

Topical gels, oils, and creams are approved for localized relief without significant psychoactive effect. Transdermal patches offer a slower, sustained-release alternative.
