Phenix City sits on the Chattahoochee River directly across from Columbus, Georgia, and a share of local workers commute to Georgia-side employers near Fort Moore. That border position shapes a lot of patients' questions here. The AMCC dispensing list stops at the Alabama side of the river, and Phenix City itself is not on it. The nearest options are Montgomery, about 85 miles west via US-80 (roughly 1 hour 35 minutes), home to Callie's Apothecary, and Oxford, farther north, where RJK Holdings AL has a planned location.
Note that Georgia only permits low-THC oil under a separate, much more restrictive program, so a Georgia card or product cannot substitute for an Alabama one, and crossing the state line with cannabis in either direction is illegal.
Neither Montgomery's Atlanta Highway store nor Oxford's planned site sits close to the Chattahoochee, so a Phenix City trip is best treated as a dedicated errand rather than a quick stop. Budget for the same drill seen at every other new Alabama counter: hand over the card and photo ID, wait a few minutes, and pay in cash if the terminal is acting up. Beyond Fort Moore-adjacent commuters, Phenix City's own riverfront redevelopment and manufacturing employers add to the local patient base.

Alabama's medical cannabis program is real but still very young. GP6 Wellness has been building out BamaBloom dispensaries in Athens and Birmingham, also targeted for September 2026, and RJK Holdings AL has approved sites planned for Oxford, Mobile, and Daphne. The AMCC's full approved dispensing list also includes Attalla and Cullman. Integrated cultivation-through-retail licenses remained under administrative review in 2026.
Recreational cannabis is illegal statewide - a misdemeanor on a first personal-use offense, with felony exposure for repeat or larger-quantity possession. Only registered patients with a valid Alabama medical cannabis card may purchase, and only in person; the program does not allow delivery.
Separately, hemp-derived THC products (HB 445, fully effective January 2026) are regulated by the ABC Board - sold only in licensed stores to buyers 21+, capped at 10 mg THC per serving and 40 mg per package, no delivery. Alabama's rollout has moved from zero open stores to a handful in under three months: Montgomery in June 2026, Talladega in August, and a wave of Birmingham-metro, Athens, and Gulf Coast openings targeted for September. Integrated cultivation-to-retail licenses remain stuck in administrative review, and the Yellowhammer license stays stayed pending appeal. Expect the approved-city list to keep growing through the rest of 2026, with Southeast Alabama and the Shoals the most likely gaps to close next given how many cities in this guide still have no nearby counter.
