Aurora spreads across three counties - Arapahoe, Adams, and Douglas - and its size as Colorado's third-largest city means its cannabis retail scene doesn't cluster into one obvious district the way Denver's South Broadway does. Aurora followed Denver's example on delivery, passing its own ordinance in December 2022 to license retail delivery citywide - one of relatively few Front Range cities to do so, alongside Denver itself. That makes Aurora's cannabis market more delivery-friendly than similarly sized Colorado Springs, which bans it outright, or most of the state's smaller cities that have never opted in.

Buckley Space Force Base sits within Aurora's boundaries, and while state law treats any adult 21+ the same regardless of military status, active-duty personnel and their dependents face federal restrictions on cannabis use that exist independent of Colorado's legality. Retail clusters along East Colfax Avenue continuing from Denver, the Havana Street corridor near the Aurora Mall, and a growing cluster near the airport on the city's far east side. The city's first 22 recreational storefronts opened April 15, 2025, all converted from existing medical licenses, and the city now collects an extra 5% local tax on recreational purchases earmarked for public safety, mental health, and veteran PTSD programs.

Delivery remains the exception, not the rule. State law lets each city decide for itself, and most of Colorado hasn't opted in - as of September 2026 the state lists just ten retail delivery permits, held in Denver, Aurora, Broomfield and Westminster, while Colorado Springs bans delivery outright. Home grow stays generous statewide: 6 plants per adult, no more than 3 flowering at once, capped at 12 plants per household no matter how many adults live there. One quirk worth knowing before a mountain trip: edibles hit harder and slower at altitude, so dispensary staff across the high country tell first-timers to start at half their usual dose.

Colorado's cannabis brands are largely homegrown and have operated since the market's early years. Wana Brands, founded in Boulder, is the top-selling edibles brand in North America and stocks nearly every Colorado dispensary shelf; Incredibles is the other long-running Denver-based edibles name most shoppers recognize. On the flower and concentrate side, 710 Labs and Green Dot Labs are the two names Colorado's craft-cannabis scene built its reputation on, both known for small-batch, pesticide-free growing and premium live rosin. The 2025-2026 story in Colorado is Colorado Springs finally joining the recreational market after more than a decade of local prohibition, instantly adding the state's second-largest city and its existing medical dispensary base to the adult-use map. Delivery adoption is spreading slowly rather than statewide - watch for more Front Range suburbs following Denver and Aurora's lead rather than a single new state law. Consumption lounges keep expanding past Denver's early adopters as more cities issue hospitality licenses, giving tourists a legal place to use product that still can't be smoked in most hotel rooms or on public streets.
