Estes Park sits directly at the east entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park, and it is one of the Colorado towns that never joined the retail market at all. The canyon communities around it - Glen Haven, Drake, Allenspark and Pinewood Springs - have no retail either, which makes Lyons at the mouth of the St. Vrain canyon the closest licensed option for most of the area, roughly 40 minutes from downtown. Loveland, down Highway 34, approved sales in November 2024 and opened its first recreational store in August 2026.
