Bradley Cannabis Guide: Meriden, Connecticut

Meriden made silver. The factories that gave the city its nickname are gone, but the street grid, the parks and the housing stock they built are still here, and about 60,000 people live in them. The city sits at the midpoint between Hartford and New Haven, with I-691 crossing I-91 at its edge and a Hartford Line station on the Meriden Green downtown.

Both of the city's licensed cannabis stores ended up on the east side. Clone Canabiss runs a hybrid at 834 Broad Street, and Zen Leaf holds a hybrid license at 1371 East Main Street. Hybrid means both counters serve registered medical patients alongside adult-use customers, so nobody in Meriden has to leave the city for a tax-free patient purchase.

Geographically that concentrates retail on the denser half of the city. The East Side, the East Main corridor, Yale Acres and Bradley Avenue all sit within a few minutes of one or both stores. The West Side, Westfield and South Meriden run longer, generally ten to fifteen minutes across town on East Main or Broad. Both stores also collect traffic from Wallingford, Southington and Cheshire, none of which host a licensed dispensary.

Hubbard Park and the Castle Craig tower above it remain the city's landmark, and the rebuilt Green downtown has become the anchor for whatever comes next on Colony Street.

Connecticut's adult-use law traces back to Public Act 21-1, signed in June 2021, which made the state the 19th to legalize cannabis for adults 21 and older. Retail sales didn't start until January 10, 2023, when the first nine hybrid dispensaries — stores already licensed to serve medical patients — opened to the general public. Growth since has been steady rather than explosive, shaped heavily by the state's social equity licensing requirements.

By September 2026, Connecticut counts 75 licensed cannabis retail locations, split between adult-use-only stores and hybrid locations that also serve the medical program established in 2012. The Department of Consumer Protection runs a dedicated Cannabis Division that handles licensing and inspections, while the Social Equity Council reviews applicants from communities disproportionately affected by prohibition-era enforcement. Licensed delivery services — including statewide operator Green Coach and Fairfield County-focused Cannabis Connection and Green Cab — bring product from dispensary inventory to a customer's door, since delivery companies can't hold their own stock.

2026 brought the biggest tax rewrite since legalization. Public Act 26-8, signed in May 2026, rewrites the cannabis, hemp and infused-beverage rules effective October 1, 2026, and takes the THC ceilings off the shelf entirely: the 35% cap on flower and the 70% cap on concentrates both come out of the statute that day. The tax structure itself is unchanged. That followed a July 2025 change letting stores sell a full ounce of flower per transaction instead of a half-ounce, and an October 2025 bump that took the flower cap from 30% to 35%.

Connecticut sits inside a fully-legal New England corridor — New York, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island all sell recreational cannabis too — but interstate transport of any amount remains a federal crime, so cannabis bought in Hartford has to stay in Connecticut.

Connecticut's shelves lean on a handful of verified in-state operators. Curaleaf runs both cultivation and multiple retail locations. Fine Fettle operates hybrid medical/recreational stores in Stamford, Newington, West Hartford and Willimantic, plus equity-joint-venture locations in several other towns. Higher Collective built a social-equity-focused chain anchored in Bridgeport with additional locations around the state. Affinity Grow cultivates in the New Haven area and supplies its own Affinity Dispensary storefront. Theraplant and Advanced Grow Labs are two of the state's original licensed cultivators, supplying flower to multiple retailers. Zen Leaf and RISE bring multi-state-operator inventory into Connecticut's hybrid dispensary network. Hi! People in Derby runs a rotating live-flower bud bar worth the drive.

The headline story of 2026 is Public Act 26-8, which lands October 1: the 35% flower ceiling and the 70% concentrate ceiling both come out of the statute, infused beverages get a reworked rulebook, and the hemp side of the market is pulled into the same framework. The tax formula stays as it is. That follows July 2025's jump to a full-ounce purchase limit and October 2025's flower cap increase to 35% THC. Retailer count keeps climbing past 70 as social equity licenses come online, and delivery keeps expanding as more dispensaries add Green Coach or a local courier to their menu.
