That single institution draws hundreds of thousands of visitors annually and turns enshrinement weekend each August into the busiest week of the local retail calendar, dispensaries included.

Beyond football, Canton's economy runs on a manufacturing legacy built around the Timken Company, a bearing and steel manufacturer founded here in 1899 that remains one of Stark County's largest employers to this day. That industrial base gives Canton a working-class retail character similar to Akron or Youngstown, though Canton's cannabis prices tend to land closer to Ohio's statewide average than the deep-discount markets further north.

Retail clusters downtown near the Hall of Fame Village entertainment district, along Whipple Avenue running through the western side of the city, and in the northern suburb of North Canton near the Hoover Company's former vacuum-manufacturing headquarters. SB 56 also shut down Ohio's parallel hemp market. Adults 21 and older can possess up to 2.5 ounces of flower or 15 grams of extract, and can grow up to six plants at home (twelve per household) as long as the plants are locked up and out of public view. Recreational purchases carry a 10% state cannabis excise tax stacked on top of the regular 5.75% state sales tax and whatever local sales tax applies, for an effective rate of roughly 16.5% to 17.5% depending on the city. Delivery is still not legal for adult-use customers — SB 56 opened the door to medical-only delivery, but the Division of Cannabis Control had not finalized those rules as of September 2026, so every purchase in this guide assumes an in-person dispensary visit.
