Medical delivery exists for registered cardholders; recreational is pickup and curbside only
Montana legalized adult-use cannabis in 2020 and opened retail sales on January 1, 2022, but the Marijuana Regulation and Taxation Act never authorized home delivery for recreational customers. Licensed dispensaries can sell in-store or hand product to you while you wait in a vehicle parked immediately outside, called curbside handoff, and many let you place an order online ahead of time so it is ready when you arrive. Registered medical cardholders are the one group with an actual delivery option: a state administrative rule allows a limited number of licensed dispensaries to hand-deliver directly to a registered patient's address. If you are 21+ without a medical card, plan on pickup or curbside. If you are a registered patient, ask your dispensary whether it offers home delivery before you assume it does, because not every licensed store participates.
Because home delivery is restricted to medical cardholders and only some dispensaries participate, your options depend on whether you hold a Montana medical card.

Recreational sales carry a 20% state cannabis tax, plus up to 3% local-option tax in counties that have adopted one. Medical sales carry a lower 4% state cannabis tax.
Can out-of-state visitors buy cannabis in Montana?
Yes, recreational sales are open to anyone 21+ with a valid ID, including visitors. Medical delivery, however, is limited to registered Montana cardholders.
Is hemp-derived THC delivery legal in Montana?
No. HB 49 caps hemp THC at 0.5 mg per serving and 2 mg per package, SB 375 bans delta-8 and other converted isomers, and THC edibles are confined to licensed dispensaries. There is no lawful channel for intoxicating hemp THC products to be shipped or delivered in Montana.
Will Montana expand recreational delivery in the future?
There is no adopted rule change authorizing home delivery for adult-use sales as of September 2026. Curbside and in-store pickup remain the only options for recreational customers.
