The city doubled down on a second economy over the past two decades: the I-10 casino corridor, anchored by L'Auberge and the Golden Nugget, now employs thousands in hospitality roles that run 24 hours a day.

Medicis, LLC holds the region's base permit at 3005 L'Auberge Boulevard, placed deliberately along the same casino corridor that drives so much of the local economy, and runs two satellites that extend coverage well beyond city limits: one in Jennings, about 25 miles east in Jefferson Davis Parish, and another in Sulphur, roughly 10 miles west in Calcasieu Parish. Between the three addresses, Medicis covers the industrial Westlake-Sulphur corridor, the casino strip, and the rural Jennings approach without concentrating everyone into one location.

The L'Auberge Boulevard base sits inside the same commercial stretch as the casino resorts themselves, meaning hospitality shift workers coming off overnight schedules make up a disproportionate share of the pharmacy's daily traffic compared to the more typical nine-to-five patient base found in Louisiana's other regions. None of this touches the possession limit, which remains 71 grams of flower per patient per 14-day window, or the requirement that every purchase still starts with a physician's recommendation.

Running alongside the medical program is a separate, tighter hemp-derived THC track. Act 752 of 2024 caps hemp edibles at 5 mg of THC per serving, bans every inhalable hemp product outright, and restricts sales to buyers 21 and older at permitted retailers - never gas stations. A medical card is still the only legal way to buy real-potency flower in Louisiana.

The headline 2025-2026 story is regulatory, not retail: Act 693 finished moving retailer oversight from the Board of Pharmacy to LDH on January 1, 2025, the March 2025 emergency rule renamed dispensaries to retailers, and a January 2026 final rule locked the framework in. Meanwhile the adult-use pilot bill (HB 627) died without a committee vote when the session closed in June 2025, so the medical-only structure holds through the rest of 2026. On the hemp side, Act 752's inhalable ban and 5 mg serving caps have visibly thinned gas-station and convenience-store shelves since ATC enforcement began in January 2025.
