Overview

Oklahoma legalized medical cannabis in June 2018 (State Question 788), creating one of the most patient-friendly programs in America. Unlike most states, Oklahoma has NO qualifying conditions—any patient with a doctor's recommendation can obtain a card.

IMPORTANT: Oklahoma is MEDICAL ONLY. There is no recreational cannabis program. However, the medical program is extremely accessible, including temporary licenses for out-of-state visitors.

Adults 18+ (minors with guardian) can obtain a medical card with a doctor's recommendation. The state has issued 300,000+ patient licenses and has more dispensaries per capita than any other state—over 2,000 licensed dispensaries.

Temporary Patient Licenses: Out-of-state visitors with a valid medical card from their home state can apply for a 30-day Oklahoma temporary license ($100 fee). This makes Oklahoma accessible for medical tourists.

Taxes: 7% state excise tax on medical sales + local sales tax. Total effective rate varies by city, typically 12-15%.

Home cultivation: Legal for patients (6 mature plants, 6 seedlings per household).

Prices are among the lowest in the nation due to market saturation. Eighths regularly available for $10-25 at many dispensaries.

How Access & Delivery Work

Delivery IS legal in Oklahoma for licensed dispensaries. Many dispensaries offer delivery within their service area, though availability varies by location.

Oklahoma City and Tulsa have the most delivery options. Rural areas may have limited delivery coverage. Same-day delivery is common in metro areas.

You must have a valid Oklahoma medical card (or temporary license) to receive delivery. ID verification required at delivery.

Given the density of dispensaries (often multiple per block in some areas), many patients simply walk in. But delivery is available for convenience.
