De Tonti Square Cannabis Guide: Mobile, Alabama

Where people in De Tonti Square actually buy, what it costs, and what is legal in Mobile, Alabama as of September 2026.

Informational only. We don’t sell or deliver cannabis and we’re not a dispensary.

De Tonti Square Overview

De Tonti Square sits north of Government Street around North Claiborne and St. Joachim streets, holding one of the oldest concentrations of antebellum brick townhouses on the Gulf Coast. It is small, quiet and hemmed in by the Beauregard Street corridor and the interstate approach to the Wallace Tunnel. That interstate access is the only cannabis-relevant feature. With no confirmed dispensary in Mobile County, a cardholder here merges onto I-65 within minutes and drives north toward the Montgomery counter, a route measured in hours rather than blocks.

Delivery in De Tonti Square

Sitting near a highway ramp helps only because the highway is the whole trip. Alabama authorizes no home drop-off, no curbside handoff and no mail order for anything sold under the medical program.

Local Pricing

Fuel dominates the cost picture from Mobile, not product. Until RJK Holdings AL confirms an opening, budget the state registration and card plus a genuinely long drive each way.

De Tonti Square FAQ

How long is the Montgomery drive from north downtown?

Close to two hours and forty-five minutes each way on I-65, which makes a purchase a full-day commitment rather than an errand.

Could the Mobile store open without much notice?

Alabama openings have been announced within weeks of launch so far. Watching the operator and the commission directly is more reliable than assuming a timeline.

Is a caregiver allowed to drive that far on my behalf?

Yes. A caregiver registered with the commission may make the trip and purchase for you, presenting their own credentials at the door.

Market Overview

Cannabis in De Tonti Square, Mobile

Mobile is Alabama's only saltwater port city, sitting at the mouth of Mobile Bay where the Mobile and Tensaw rivers meet the Gulf. Shipbuilding and maritime employers, including Austal USA, anchor much of the local workforce and patient base. RJK Holdings AL holds the approval here at 3664 Airport Boulevard, alongside sites in Oxford and Daphne, the latter about 15 miles east across the bay. That Airport Boulevard unit was still sitting empty as of this writing with no announced opening date; check directly with RJK Holdings AL or the AMCC for current status.
Until a local counter is confirmed, the closest working option has been Montgomery, roughly 170 miles north via I-65 (about 2 hours 45 minutes).
The approved storefront sits on Airport Boulevard, the mid-city retail spine rather than the downtown port district, roughly where the boulevard passes the Midtown neighborhoods. Once open, expect the same card-and-ID check-in other new Alabama stores have used, with cash preferred given limited card-processing options in cannabis retail. Beyond Austal USA's shipyards, the Alabama State Port Authority and a cluster of downtown medical offices round out the local patient base likely to be watching for an opening date.
Every rule about eligibility is a statewide fact; everything about cards, fees, products, and dosing limits lives in the statewide guide above instead.

Alabama Statewide Context

Alabama's medical cannabis program is real but still very young. The Darren Wesley 'Ato' Hall Compassion Act passed in 2021 and created the Alabama Medical Cannabis Commission (AMCC), but license awards were tied up in litigation for years afterward. That changed on December 11, 2025, when the AMCC voted to approve dispensary licenses, and on January 8, 2026, three companies were issued licenses: CCS of Alabama, GP6 Wellness, and RJK Holdings AL. A fourth award, to Yellowhammer, was stayed pending an administrative challenge.
Callie's Apothecary, operated by CCS of Alabama, opened in Montgomery on June 4, 2026 as the state's first legally operating dispensary. A second Callie's opened at 309 Battle Street West in Talladega on August 28, 2026, and a third, in Bessemer near Birmingham, was expected in September 2026. GP6 Wellness has been building out BamaBloom dispensaries in Athens and Birmingham, also targeted for September 2026, with a third GP6 site approved for Attalla in Etowah County, and RJK Holdings AL has approved sites planned for Oxford, Mobile, and Daphne. That is the whole approved map: nine cities across three licensees. CCS moved its third site from Cullman to Bessemer before opening, so Cullman is not an approved location.
Recreational cannabis is illegal statewide - a misdemeanor on a first personal-use offense, with felony exposure for repeat or larger-quantity possession. Only registered patients with a valid Alabama medical cannabis card may purchase, and only in person; the program does not allow delivery.
Separately, hemp-derived THC products (HB 445, fully effective January 2026) are regulated by the ABC Board - sold only in licensed stores to buyers 21+, capped at 10 mg THC per serving and 40 mg per package, no delivery. Smokable hemp is banned outright: since July 1, 2025, selling or simply possessing hemp flower, pre-rolls or hemp cigars is a Class C felony carrying up to ten years, and prosecutors have applied the same reading to THC vapes. Retail sales also carry a 10 percent excise tax. This is a separate system from the AMCC medical program.

Shopping Guide

What to Buy in De Tonti Square

Product availability in De Tonti Square, Mobile follows Alabama regulations. Here's what's available and what to expect:

🌿 Flower

Raw, smokable flower is prohibited under Alabama's medical program and is not sold at any licensed dispensary. There is no pending rule change that would add it.

💨 Vape Cartridges

Vape cartridges are not sold in Alabama's medical program - anything meant to be vaped or smoked is excluded. The only inhaled forms permitted are liquids for a nebulizer or medical inhaler device. Hemp-derived THC vapes fall on the wrong side of HB 445's smokable ban as police and prosecutors have read it, which since July 1, 2025 makes possession as well as sale a Class C felony.

🚬 Pre-Rolls

Pre-rolled joints are not available, since raw flower and smoking are both excluded from the medical program.

🍫 Edibles

Approved forms are non-sugar-coated gelatinous cubes/cuboids, lozenges, tablets, and capsules - not gummies or baked goods. Daily dosing is capped at 50 mg of delta-9 THC (up to 75 mg after 90 days of continuous care with physician sign-off).

💎 Concentrates

Alabama does not sell dabbable concentrates such as wax or shatter. Concentrated oils only appear in approved delivery forms - tinctures, topicals, transdermal patches, and inhaler/nebulizer liquids.

💧 Tinctures & Oils

Tinctures and oils are among the core approved categories and one of the more widely stocked forms at open dispensaries. They are taken sublingually for relatively fast onset and precise, incremental dosing.

🧴 Topicals

Topical gels, oils, and creams are approved for localized relief without significant psychoactive effect. Transdermal patches offer a slower, sustained-release alternative.
